The ICSM's objectives for the coming contract remain those that led to its creation, with an extension of research into recycling.
These include:
- optimize extraction/separation through the design and rational synthesis of organic ligands and chelating materials for use in separative chemistry processes adapted to the reprocessing of spent nuclear fuel and the recycling of elements of interest (radionuclides and strategic metals), as well as to the extraction of valuable molecules, taking into account the principles of eco-extraction.
- anticipate this separation, by taking into account the life cycle of materials, and by studying the cycle of chemical and/or physico-chemical processes linked to the life cycle of materials and associated fluids. The aim is to understand and establish relationships between the structure (electronic, composition, microstructure, nano-organization...) and reactivity (dissolution, physical stress, irradiation...) of solid compounds and associated materials such as nuclear fuel models.
