Courses taught at ICSM

Training and research-based support play a very important role at the Institute, particularly via the interventions of several ICSM researchers and research professors in various programs:

Collaborative training in the field of nuclear

To give an adequately response to the needs for researchers and chemical engineers for nuclear power (especially in the fuel cycle from mine to reprocessing and storage or nuclear fields), the establishment of a multidisciplinary and concerted training between the ENSCM, the UM2 and the CEA / INSTN was proposed by the CEA, and implemented with the support of the MESR (The Ministry of National Education, Advanced Instruction, and Research).

This training is composed of a training for nuclear chemistry and chemical engineering to chemical engineers destination at the ENSCM (concerted action with the ENSCP), a redesign and a strengthening Master in Separative Chemistry, Materials and Processes: Application to the Nuclear Fuel (UM2/ENSCM/CEA-INSTN), and Professional Licensing ETM SC (UM2 and CEA-INSTN), University Montpellier 2.

The year 2009 was devoted to the development of better readability and coordination of the trainings in order to propose an offer of comprehensive, coherent and complementary trainings between the different Universities and School to provide a significant flow of engineers or scientists chemists with a strong nuclear culture in response to the needs of industrial and consolidate the training by and for the research in support of activities development including the CEA through ICSM. These are mainly:

  • The creation of a 3rd year option "Chemistry for the Environment and Nuclear (CNE) at ENSCM, focusing on the management of raw materials, separative chemistry processes and decontamination / treatment;
  • The restructuration of the Master CSMP two years (M1 and M2) in the context of increased mutualisations within the Master of Chemistry, University of Montpellier 2;
  • The enhancement of mutual paths between CNE (ENSCM) and CSMP (UM2) for the establishment of a coherent and coordinated training.

Promotion of scientific instruction from ICSM/EC abroad

French and Chinese have identified common strategic interests in the nuclear field that materialize with the construction of nuclear plants in China, especially in southern China and in Guangdong Province. The plant operation induces a real challenge in terms of skills, that have to be anticipated in quality (engineering degree) and in quantity (hundreds ...). A consortium, led by higher education institutions and major industries, with strong political support, was established to meet this challenge.
The project sought by the Sun Yat-Sen University in Guangdong aims to create a school of Franco-Chinese nuclear engineers on the French model. The school curriculum in 6 years will train 150 engineers per school year (900 students total).

The function of Luc Girard (ENSCM) in this project is to coordinate the work of developing the educational program in the field "Material and Fuel Cycle", one of the three courses in this school.
